BC-OK Nakusp S13 Finals
The main tournament had a pretty quick finish. When we were down to our final 3 players, I sat down to deal and then it all ended in 3 hands! The stacks for final three were as follows:
Lawrence Grenier-35,000
Ken Nishida-81,000
Dan Watt- 201,000
The first hand I dealt, Lawrence pushed in with A-6 off-suit and was called by Dan who had A-Q. A queen came up on the turn and that was it for Lawrence. The second hand I dealt was nothing too substantial but hand number 3 ended the tournament. Ken had Q-3, and Dan had Q-5, no action pre-flop but then the flop came down QQ5. Dan checked his full house and Ken put out a small bet. At this point Dan pushed all-in and Ken called. The turn was a 9, so the only shot Ken had was to chop the pot if the river was a 5 or a 9. When the river was a 7 the players respectfully shook hands, and headed up to the bar to celebrate Dan's win.
The side tournament final three played out for much longer. The chip stacks were very even, and stayed that way for a couple sets of blinds. At one point we took a moment to compare stacks and this was the count:
Larry Fergusson-37,000
Dan Watt- 38,000
Rob Smallwood-43,000
It was really anybody's game at that point. But eventually Rob's all-in moment was unsuccessful and Dan was heads up for the second time this weekend. Larry played a solid game and came out the winner on this one. It also happened to be his birthday, so that was pretty fantastic!
One other highlight of the weekend was a $531 win on the Pacific Hold'em game. Debbie Curle from Nakusp had just busted out of the side game so she decided to try her luck with a pacific hold'em ticket. Next thing we know the screen displays that there is only 1 winner in all of BC, and the ticket holder was at the Leland Bar in Nakusp. She had put in $10 and won $531. Not bad at all!
I must say this is honestly the best regional tournament I have been involved in. I will hold on to many great memories from this weekend, and it was nice to get that much closer with all the great players in Nakusp.
