Poker Poetry
Thanks to Jeff Caskenette for sharing this great poker poem which was published in his local paper.
Look under our brave ensign
That marks our sacred cenotaph
I’m at the Canmore Legion.
That’s where they play the magic game
That’s caused such a sensation
The local shills bring all their skills
It’s quite a congregation.
It starts at seven- don’t be late
There’ll be delightful chatter
So bring your Mom or bring a date,
‘Cause sex and age don’t matter.
There’s Tim from Exshaw, he’s a Champ
Like Matt he beat Alberta’s best,
And don’t play loose with either Bruce
Or you’ll go home depressed.
Watch out for Grandma Bushulak-
Michele and Kattie have a plan,
They love to stab you in the back
To make you feel like half a man.
My cheap friends say it can’t be true
No good can come from betting.
But this is free, there is no fee
So stop your hands from sweating.
It doesn’t cost a cent I say’
A hundred times I’ve told ‘em,
The game is fair so grab your chair
For holy Texas Hold’Em.
You might just get the ace from space
Or find it really crushing-
The board might pair! A full house there,
When you are merely flushing.
Whatever happens it’s all fun
These are not slicks from Vegas
You praise the lucky dog who won,
(They’re just your friends and neighbors.)
The food is great as it goes down
The prices are the best in town
And on the walls you’ll see the reasons
We all support our worthy Legions.
So why not join us for the show
It’s all a little classy-
The best thing to come down the Bow
Since old Lorenzo Grassi!
